The third T20 International between Pakistan Women and Windies Women took place at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium and it turned out to be a closely fought affair. However, the hosts, captained by Bismah Maroof, won the match by 12 runs but lost the three-match series 2-1 after defeats in the first two encounters at the same venue. The home team won the toss and elected to bat first.
Nida Dar scored 53 runs from 40 balls with five boundaries and a couple of boundaries. The knock also lifted Pakistan Women to 150 for six in 20 overs. Omaima Sohail and Aliya Riyaz added 28 and 24 runs respectively to propel the home team’s score. The right-arm fast bowler, who played her first match in the series, was the most successful bowler with two wickets, conceding only 20 runs in four overs.
During the run-chase, Deandra Dottin led from the front to score 46 runs from 29 balls with the help of three fours and four over-boundaries. Natasha McLean churned out 26 priceless runs in the middle-order, but all her efforts went in vain. Their skipper Merissa Aguilleira got only 14 runs In the meantime, the encounter was also a witness to a rather hilarious incident surrounding keeper Sidra Nawaz.
Nawaz makes a horrendous mistake
The incident took place in the third ball of the sixth over by off-spinner Nida Dar. Chedean Nation was the batswoman on strike. Dar bowled from around the wicket and bowled it way outside the off-stump. Nation cut it away with all the force she had, but the fielder inside the circle was on her toes and she made a brisk return to the keeper at the striker’s end.
Nevertheless, Nation was way out of her crease. The keeper made a complete hash of it and after collecting the ball, she threw it at the non-striker’s end. She didn’t realize that she had the chance of taking the bails off herself and get Nation, who went on to score 19 runs from 23 balls with two fours.
