The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been a terrific side in the tournament since its inception, and this season the Knights have played amazing cricket to get to the playoffs. Up ahead for the Knights are the Rajasthan Royals, who would be looking to go with their momentum with the Royals winning 5 of their last six games.

Being able to deliver when it matters, is the kind of attitude that the Knight Riders have shown throughout the tournament. After a massive defeat against the defending champions Mumbai Indians, the side led by Dinesh Karthik bounced back with victories over Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ assistant coach Simon Katich congratulated skipper Dinesh Karthik for adjusting to the demands of the new franchise and making a huge contribution with both bat and the gloves this season in a conversation with Sportstar.

Ahead of his team’s qualifier game against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, the Aussie coach said “Guys like Robin Uthappa and Piyush Chawla, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Their experience is valuable. We have a lot of youngsters. Players like Shubman Gill will play in a playoff match for the first time in front of a packed Eden Gardens.”

Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy and pressure situations:

Further, he laid emphasis on how Dinesh Karthik has come to the fore at the right time in the tournament, “He has certainly learnt a lot in these seven weeks about the group and the way we play. His batting has been outstanding. He has been on the top of his game. His wicketkeeping has been obviously good. From the captaincy point of view, he has learnt a lot throughout the tournament from what he was seven weeks ago.”

However, what remains important to the Aussie coach is the team staying right under the pressure of a crunch game. He talked about how the team can not get complacent with the finals in sight, after having put immense hard work in reaching the playoff stage.

Katich concluded by saying that the team is in a good spirit and have put aside their humongous loss against the Mumbai Indians.

“We have been in that situation in last three games, really, with the position we put ourselves into after back-to-back losses to Mumbai. It put us under pressure going back to that game in Indore (against Kings XI Punjab)… I think that has been the testament to the character the team has shown.” concluded the Australian.
