Six players from England’s men county team Surrey have resorted to self-isolation. The step has been taken as a precautionary measure to the COVID-19 outbreak, which has sparked a whole lot of panic across the globe. Even as all six of them haven’t reported the symptoms of coronavirus, they have been instructed to stay at home this week for one and all to be on the safe side.

The six players haven’t been named just yet. The rest of the players in the squad will continue to train in the gym in Ken Barrington Centre at The Kennington Oval in London. The likes of Jason Roy, Ollie Pope, Sam Curran and Ben Foakes will also be joining the squad for training. Pope, Foakes, Curran were set to play England’s Test series in Sri Lanka that got cancelled due to the virus.

Roy was a part of the Quetta Gladiators in the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, he decided to back out after the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, Surrey called the pre-season cancelled its pre-season training camp in Dubai as per reports in kiaoval.com.

The camp was set to get underway on Tuesday, March 17, but that won’t be the case for the time being due to the sudden coronavirus havoc. The pre-season fixtures, starting at Sussex on April 2 haven’t been postponed just yet and remain scheduled to start on the very date.

Coronavirus taking a toll on cricket

The cricketing globe has had to bear the brunt of the coronavirus and the scenario doesn’t seem to get any better. Most of the cricket tournaments have either been cancelled or been postponed. Teams have also shunned handshakes amidst the awareness circulated in the adverse scenario. Barring the PSL, which was into its semi-final stage, very few cricket events took place on Sunday

Even the PSL has now been cancelled after a number of players backed out midway due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cash-rich and prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) was set to start on March 29. However, that has now been postponed to April 15 after the Indian government cancelled all the visas, barring a few categories like employment and diplomatic.
