Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the national team on the recently-concluded tour of Sri Lanka. Even as Ravi Shastri is currently with the Virat Kohli-led team for the five-match Test series against England, Dravid was in charge of the unit, captained by Shikhar Dhawan. In Sri Lanka, while India won the ODI series 2-1, they lost the T20I series 1-2.

In the meantime, Shastri’s tenure with the Indian team ends after the T20 World Cup later this year in the UAE. Dravid has been touted to take over the mantle of coaching from Shastri. However, the Wall of Indian cricket doesn’t wish to look too far ahead and wishes to live in the present for the time being.

I have not given it any other thought: Rahul Dravid

“I have enjoyed this experience. I have not really thought of anything far ahead. To be honest with you, I am happy doing what I am doing. For me, I have not given it any other thought except this tour and getting through this tour and enjoying the experience,” Dravid was quoted as saying on Sportskeeda.

Even as the veteran enjoyed his stint with the Men in Blue, Dravid also understood the challenges that come with the job of a full-time coach in a national team.

“I love working with these guys, it’s pretty great. And no, I haven’t given it any thought really. You know, there are a lot of challenges doing a full-time role so I really don’t know,” he added.

While Dravid garnered loads of laurels in his cricket career, he hasn’t flattered to deceive in coaching as well. Back in 2018, India U19, led by Prithvi Shaw, won the World Cup in New Zealand under Dravid’s tutelage. Over the years, a number of youngsters have praised Dravid for sharing his inputs.

Back in 2019, he was also appointed as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy. As far as the Lankan tour is concerned, it didn’t end on a happy note for Dravid. On Thursday, July 29, the Men in Blue lost by seven wickets at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to conceded the T20I series.
