The 2018 edition of ICC U19 World Cup is all set to get underway in the second week of January 2018. The teams have started off their preparations and have put forth their best combinations forward ahead of the mega event. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the latest to announce their squad for the youth World Cup. The official media release by the board confirmed the list of 15 players who would travel to New Zealand for the tournament.

New Zealand will be hosting an U19 World Cup for the third time in the history of the game – the most by any nation. ICC U19 World Cup 2018 will kick off on January 13. The tournament would end with the finals scheduled to be played on February 4, 2018. Prior to the tournament proper, the teams will get their opportunities to fare up in the practice matches.

Commenting on the Sri Lanka squad, young Kamindu Mendis has been selected as the captain of the team. There are quite a few exciting names in the squad who are promising young talents who have already showcased their strut at the domestic level. The squad of 15 members was selected by the SLC and then forwarded to the Minister of Sports in Sri Lanka, Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara. Jayasekara has approved the squad and it has now been finalised.

The Sri Lankan fans would hope that the young colts would show promising stuff at the grand stage. They have been largely let down by their senior men’s team in the recent times. Sri Lanka is going through a transitional phase. Hence, a solid performance from the colts could see them make a statement for their cause in the national side as well.

Here is the Sri Lanka U19 squad for ICC U19 World Cup 2018:

Kamindu Mendis (C), Dhananjaya Lakshan, Santhush Gunathilaka, Hasitha Boyagoda, Nawanidu Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Kishan Sanjula, Nishan Madushka, Jehan Daniel, Pravenn Jayawickrama, Haren Buddila, Thisara Rashmika, Kalana Perera, Nipun Malinga.
