Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to postpone the T20 match between the World XI and Sri Lanka XI due to the team’s ‘tight schedule’. The match was scheduled to take place on September 8th but it has now been delayed confirmed an SLC Ex-co member. The match will be a charity match and the money raised from the event will go to the ‘disaster-affected children’. Players from all over the globe will take part in the T20 event.

Details:

Jerome Jayarathne, the Chief Operating Officer of SLC, said that they wanted to come up with perfect planning and strategy and assure the possibility of hosting the match on a said date. Realizing the tough schedule of players so late comes as a surprise because the schedules of past and present cricketers who are expected to take part in the event have not changed.

The ICC has already accepted the event and it is set to be broadcasted worldwide via Sony Network said Ashley de Silva. the CEO of SLC. However, the board was unable to confirm the names of the players who will be a part of the T20 match. The board also could not say how much money they have planned to raise through the event.

According to a source, the SLC is thinking of pulling back the idea though they have mentioned it to be ‘postponed’ and not canceled.

Sri Lanka Cricket is going through a dismal state at the moment due to the horrific form of the team. After getting whitewashed in the Test series against India at home, they have already lost the first 3 matches of the ODI series. they now need to win the remaining two anyhow, to ensure automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup.

The fans have already lost their cool as we experienced outbursts after the first and the 3rd ODI. The fans surrounded the SLC office and hurled abuses at them and also the Sri Lankan team bus following the defeat in the first One Day International. The 3rd ODI was also interrupted by the frustrated Sri Lankan fans as they threw water bottles on the ground when India were 8 runs away from the win.
