Brendon McCullum, the captain of the Brisbane Heat finds himself in a spot of bother as he will be suspended for the following encounter involving the Heat. This suspension comes following the slow over-rate that against the Perth Scorchers wherein 96 minutes were taken to bowl the 20 overs as opposed to the 0 minutes allotted for the same.

This now means that the Heat will be without two of their best batsmen on the day with both McCullum and Chris Lynn away from the side. This also means that Joe Burns will take up the mantle of captaincy for the upcoming match against the Melbourne Stars once again to be played once again at the GABBA.

The fine, however, was reduced to $500 per player because the Heat chose not to appeal the sanction. Max Walters, the Cricket Chief of Queensland went on to add that it was disappointing for the likes of those who’d be making their way out to the GABBA on the day to watch McCullum play. However, despite this, Walters went on to add that McCullum would definitely bounce back from this setback.

“It is disappointing for them [supporters] that they will miss seeing one of the game’s best in action in Melbourne next week,” Queensland Cricket chief executive Max Walters said in a statement.

“It is a shame but we accept those are the competition rules we are playing under and reminds us that we can continue to improve in all facets of the game.”

“We’re confident the team will give a good account of itself against the Stars and continue to play bright, attacking T20 cricket. We’re sure Brendon and the team will be rebounded from this setback and finish the competition strongly.”
