Arun Dhumal, Khairul Jamal Majumdar file nominations for IPL Governing Council re-election

Himachal Pradesh's Arun Singh Dhumal and Mizoram's Khairul Jamal Majumdar have each filed their nominations for the two elected IPL Governing Council positions from the BCCI general body. The nomination window opened on September 9, 2026, and runs through September 10, 2026, with the formal list of confirmed candidates scheduled for publication on September 12, 2026.

Both Dhumal and Majumdar are the sitting elected members on the council and are set to be re-elected to their respective seats, as reported by Cricbuzz. No rival nominations have been reported as of the opening of the window, though the possibility of a contested election remains open until the final candidate list is published on September 12.

IPL Governing Council structure and election rules

The election will take place at the BCCI Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 18, 2026. State associations had until August 31, 2026, to submit applications designating their representatives for the AGM, and the Final Electoral Roll determining which associations are eligible to participate was due for release on September 8, 2026. Separately, BCCI Electoral Officer AK Joti issued a notification barring the Baroda Cricket Association and the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association from taking part in the AGM proceedings.

Under Rule 28 of the BCCI Constitution, four members from the general body form part of the seven-member IPL Governing Council, and two of those four seats are filled through election at the AGM. The term for elected members is one year, which means the election process must be repeated annually. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and Treasurer A. Raghuram Bhat hold the other two general body positions on the council.

The remaining three seats on the IPL Governing Council are occupied by the BCCI Chief Executive Officer, a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association, and a nominee of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Jaisankar as the CAG nominee, and Shubhangi Dattatraya Kulkarni as the ICA representative.

At the BCCI AGM held on September 28, 2025, Majumdar moved from the Apex Council to the IPL Governing Council, with former Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah joining the Apex Council in his place. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed at that time that Dhumal would continue as IPL Governing Council chairman.
