India beat Hong Kong by 40 runs to reach the Super-Four round of the 2022 Asia Cup on Wednesday. As expected, Indian batters dominated the game with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav smashing unbeaten fifties to put a big 192-run total while batting first. Indian bowlers put in an overall average performance and guided India to a big win by grabbing only five wickets.

Rohit Sharma lost the toss and India were forced to bat first at Dubai International Stadium. Indian management decided to rest the first match's hero Hardik Pandya for this fixture and replaced him with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. India started their innings with a sensible approach as opening duo Rohit and KL Rahul put a 38-run partnership for the first wicket. The 19-year-old pacer Ayush Shukla handed Hong Kong their first opening in the form of Rohit, who scored 21 runs off 13 balls.

Kohli formed a good partnership of 56 runs for the second wicket with Rahul with the latter approaching the innings with a defensive mindset. Rahul was caught out behind the stumps on 36 runs and struggled to make a big impact despite playing 39 balls. Suryakumar Yadav walked in to partner Kohli in the middle and both the players remained unbeaten till the end. Kohli smashed his 31st T20I fifty and went on to scored 59 runs off 44 balls with the help of one four and three massive sixes.

Suryakumar stole the show with explosive batting from the start and scored 68 runs off just 26 balls with the help of six fours and six sixes. He smashed four sixes in the last over and managed 26 runs to guide India to a big total. For Hong Kong, Shukla impressed with a wicket for 29 runs in his four-over spell. 

IND vs HK: Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh struggled to impress

Indian pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh started well with the former dismissing Yasim Murtaza on just nine runs. Ravindra Jadeja removed Hong Kong skipper Nizakat Khan with a sensational throw on the last ball of the powerplay overs. But star middle-order batter Babar Hayat (41) and Kinchit Shah (30) dominated the next few overs in trying to reach closer to the target.

Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvenshwar Kumar shined with their economical bowling spell with a wicket each. But Avesh Khan continued to struggle with consistency and conceded 53 runs in his four-over spell. Arshdeep also conceded 44 runs as Hong Kong were restricted to 152/5 in 20 overs.
