Asia Cup 2022: Sri Lanka players steal the show with eye-catching celebrations in dressing room after title victory

Sri Lanka produced a dramatic comeback to win their Asia Cup 2022 title against Pakistan in the finals at the Dubai International Stadium. The Island nation lost only one game in the tournament, against Afghanistan at the start, and won the next five games in a row. More than the wins, the kind of performances that Sri Lanka have come up with will definitely help their confidence in the longer run.  

The Dasun Shanaka-led side had different match winners in each of the games, and it wasn’t just one individual excelling. The catching and fielding was fantastic from the Sri Lankan side throughout their campaign, and it clearly turned out to be the difference between the two sides in the finals as the Sri lankan fielders held on to their catches while it did not happen with the Pakistan fielders.  

The country has gone through a lot in terms of economic crisis in the last few months and the victory would certainly be cherished by the Sri Lankan fans. Meanwhile, the dressing room celebrations of Sri Lankan players showed how much the victory meant to them.

The players were also spotted singing together and taking photos to store the moments for years. They are just one more title away from equalling India’s record of seven Asia Cup titles so far.

Wanindu Hasaranga picked up the Player of the Tournament award for his consistent performances with the ball, and not to forget his important 36 off 21 balls in the final alongside Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Sri Lanka, despite the win, will have to go through the qualifier stage of the T20 World Cup 2022, to make it to the group stage.
