The high-voltage clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan got up and running as Rohit Sharma and Co. got off to a solid start in the first innings. However, in the midst of the contest, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Haris Rauf engaged in a rather hilarious discussion after the latter made an LBW appeal.

The incident occurred during the fifth ball of the 24th over when pacer Haris was up against KL Rahul. Haris thought he trapped Rahul for an LBW and made a huge appeal by raising his finger and told his captain “Out hai (That’s out)”.

However, neither did the umpire nor did Babar entertain the appeal as the skipper schooled Haris suggesting that the ball had hit quite high on the batter's pads. Haris and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan were later seen having a few chuckles following the incident in the same over.

The following delivery, Rahul nearly lost his wicket after Haris bowled a slower ball upon which the batter tried to play a drive, only to get a contact with the toe-end. However, the ball fell a couple of meters short of the player at mid off.

Rohit-Shubman lay solid foundation against Pakistan

Skipper Babar Azam made the right call during the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill swiftly hit the ground running, targetting the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah.

The pair notched up a well-built 121-run stand which helped lay down a solid foundation. While Rohit slammed 56 off 49 which featured six fours and four sixes, Shubman carved a stellar 52-ball 58, cracking 10 boundaries.

Later, the covers came on as there was heavy downpour at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Assuming no play happens on the match day, the game will resume from the same point on the reserve day – Monday, September 11. That said, the match officials will look to complete the contest on the stipulated day even if there is a 20-over chase possible.
