As we gear up for the highly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023, former Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan has weighed in on the form of Pakistan's skipper, Babar Azam. In a recent warm-up match against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Babar Azam showcased his prowess by scoring a remarkable 80 runs. This stellar performance was further complemented by an impressive knock of 90 runs off 59 balls against the formidable Australian side, led by Pat Cummins, where he smashed 11 fours and two sixes.

Irfan Pathan, a renowned cricket commentator, lauded Babar Azam's remarkable form, emphasizing that the Pakistani captain seems to be in sublime touch as the World Cup approaches. However, Pathan didn't shy away from expressing his concerns about Pakistan's opening batters. He noted that the duo of Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman had been struggling with their form, both in the Asia Cup and during the warm-up matches leading up to the tournament.

"Babar Azam looks solid for this World Cup. Nawaz is a big plus for Pakistan today. Openers are big worry for them,” Pathan wrote on X.

For Australia, I'm looking forward to seeing Josh Inglis bat in that lineup: Irfan Pathan

Speaking about the Australia batting lineup, Irfan Pathan also expressed his excitement about watching Josh Inglis in action during the ODI World Cup 2023. Inglis, representing Australia, scored a duck against the Netherlands before bouncing back with a promising innings of 48 runs against the Pakistan side led by Babar Azam.

"For Australia, I'm looking forward to seeing Josh Inglis bat in that lineup. He's an exciting player," Pathan mentioned.

Furthermore, Irfan Pathan also believes that Mitchell Starc will play a pivotal role for the Australian team in the World Cup. Despite going wicketless against Pakistan, Starc's recent form, including a hat-trick against the Dutch team, makes him a crucial asset to the Australian bowling lineup.

“Looking at their bowling set up, Starc’s bowling and bowling well at the crucial stages of the game will be utmost important for them,” the former pacer concluded.

Notably, Pakistan are set to kick off their ODI World Cup campaign against the Netherlands, captained by Scott Edwards, in Hyderabad on Friday, October 6. The performance of their openers is expected to be a key talking point as the tournament unfolds.
