Bangladesh T20I and Test captain Shakib Al Hasan received an Argentina National Cricket Team shirt ahead of the third T20I against Ireland on Friday, March 31, at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. The shirt was gifted by Argentina men’s cricket captain, Hernan Fennell, and women’s captain, Alison Stocks, with wishes for the Bangladesh team.
Led by Shakib, Bangladesh have sealed the three-match T20I series against Ireland as they defeated them by 22 and 77 runs in the first two matches, respectively. The Bangladesh captain was seen in phenomenal form in the second T20I as his all-round performance helped his side clinch the series and he was deservedly awarded Player of the Match for scoring 38*(24) and picking 5/22 (4 overs) with the ball.
Bangladesh Cricket shared the photographs of Shakib receiving the Argentina shirt from commentator Andrew Leonard who carried it to Bangladesh. They captioned the post, “Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan receives an Argentina National Cricket Team shirt sent by Argentina men’s cricket captain Hernan Fennell and women’s captain Alison Stocks with wishes for the Bangladesh team. Commentator Andrew Leonard carried the shirt to Bangladesh."
During the second T20I, the 36-year-old also surpassed Tim Southee’s tally of 134 wickets in T20Is and became the leading wicket-taker in the history of T20Is having picked up 136 wickets in 114 matches at an average of 20.78 and an economy of 6.80 with two five-wicket hauls to his name.
Ireland beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the third T20I
Shakib Al Hasan also tops the chart for most wickets for his nation with 301 wickets in ODIs and 231 wickets in Tests as well to his name, respectively. Moreover, the left-handed batter is also the leading run-scorer in T20Is for his team with 2345 runs to his name at an average of 23.68 and a strike rate of 122.26 having scored 12 half-centuries in his career.
Coming back to the third T20I between Bangladesh and Ireland, the Irish team surprised the hosts by winning the match by seven wickets and avoided a whitewash. After having opted to bat first, Bangladesh were bundled out for 124, with only Shamim Hossain scoring a half-century as he scored 51 (42). In reply, Ireland comfortably chased down the target in 14 overs, courtesy of breathtaking innings by 77 off 41 balls by the Irish captain, Paul Stirling.
