Indian bowlers made a good comeback after lunch with six wickets but were not able to bowl out Bangladesh on Day 4 of the ongoing first Test match on Saturday (December 17). Starting from 42/0 on Day 4, Bangladesh managed to score 272/6 at the end of the day's play and need 241 runs to win the game on Day 5. Debutant Zakir Hasan scored 100 runs off 224 balls for Bangladesh while India's Axar Patel took three wickets on Day 4.

Bangladesh openers Najmul Shanto and Zakir continued their good start with a 124-run partnership for the first wicket. Both batters remained unbeaten till lunch and seemed confident but Indian bowlers made a good comeback with three wickets in the second session. Kuldeep Yadav, who took a five-for in the first innings, gave India the opening with Shanto's wicket who scored 67 runs off 156 balls.

Axar removed Yasir Ali for just five runs to give India more success. Litton Das then scored 19 runs off 59 balls but once against Kuldeep broke the partnership with his wicket.

In the last session on Day 4, Zakir scored a hundred on his debut and became Bangladesh's highest run-scorer on a debut in the Test match. R Ashwin took Zakir's valuable wicket with Virat Kohli taking an impressive catch in the slip. Axar then dismissed Mushifiqur Rahim and Nurual Hasan as the hosts were struggling at 238/6 in 88 overs.

But captain Shakib Al Hasan and in-form all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz pulled off an unbeaten 34-run partnership to avoid further wickets on Day 4. Shakib stood unbeaten at 40 off 69 balls alongside Mehidy, unbeaten on 9 off 40 balls at the end of Day 4. Apart from Axar's three wickets, Kuldeep, Ashwin, and Umesh Yadav grabbed one wicket each for India.
