KL Rahul-led team India registered a comprehensive victory against hosts Bangladesh in the first of the two-match Test series. The Indian side won the first red-ball match by 188 runs in Chattogram thereby leading the series 1-0.

Speaking about the final day (Day 5) in the first contest between the two sides, the Bangla Tigers required 241 runs whereas KL Rahul and Co. needed four wickets to claim the win. Bangladesh made a promising start in the morning session just prior to the visitors stepping up their game with the ball.

Bangladesh headed into Day 5 with skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan unbeaten at the crease as they were on the lookout to pull off a miraculous win. Both batters showcased intentions of freeing their arms and putting up a fight by hitting a flurry of boundaries.

However, Kuldeep Yadav, who marked his return to the red-ball side swiftly castled Shakib for 84 of 108 balls. The wicket of the skipper handed the visitors further momentum in the contest as Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain were dismissed in quick time.

The KL Rahul-led side were under the pump in the first session of Day 1 but were rescued by the depth in the Indian batting side which propelled them into scoring over 400 runs. This eventually led to the visitors taking control in the clash and keeping momentum until the final day. Kuldeep was adjudged Man of the Match for scoring 40 runs and relishing bowling figures of 5/40 and 3/73.

India wrapped up the first red-ball match leading the series and more importantly notched up the vital points for the ICC World Test Championship. The side is still on the hunt for a spot in the summit clash of the global ICC event in 2023.
