Adelaide Strikers were dominating with the bat when Mujeeb Ur Rahman came to bowl his final over against Melbourne Renegades. In the 12th over of the match, Chris Lynn smacked his short delivery for a boundary but the spinner retaliated well as he picked up his wicket on the very next ball. The Australia international tried to clear the fence but failed to time it as Tom Rogers picked up a sensational catch. With that, Lynn walked back to the pavilion after scoring 56 runs as he gave the much-needed start to Adelaide.
Mujeeb went on to pick another wicket in the same over. In his final delivery, the 22-year-old picked up the wicket of Jake Weatherald. The cricketer failed to time the ball as he went on backfoot and was eventually plumped. With that, the Afghanistan spinner picked up his third wicket in the match as Adelaide posted 177 runs on board in the first innings.
When it came to the chase, the Renegades suffered a blow as Quinton de Kock departed early. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Shaun Marsh took control of the situation as the duo stitched an important partnership, which helped Melbourne register an important four-wicket win. Jake smacked 70 runs off just 37 deliveries while Marsh made 54 runs off 33 deliveries at Docklands Stadium.
Towards the fag end of the match, Jamie Overton played a brilliant cameo of 29* runs off 15 deliveries the Renegades chased 177 runs with eight balls remaining. With their maiden win of the season, the Will Sutherland-led side moved to number six on the points table. They now have three points from six matches, while Adelaide have the same number of points from four matches and are fifth on the table.
The win should give confidence to the Renegades, as they have struggled for the majority part of the season. Both batting and bowling unit seemed to be in good form, which will be key for the team going forward.
