Chris Broad's controversial tweet sparks criticism after son Stuart claims David Warner for record 17th time in Tests

Australia's dominant performance in the Ashes so far has taken a hit as their opening batter, David Warner, was dismissed by Stuart Broad during the Headingley Test. Warner's struggle persisted as he fell victim to Broad for the second time in the Test match. 

Remarkably, his dismissal in both innings followed a similar pattern. In the first innings, Warner lasted a mere five deliveries before edging one to Zak Crawley at second slip. On Day 3, he endured a similar fate, nicking the ball to Crawley at the exact same spot, once again lasting just five balls.

The dismissal marked the 17th instance of Warner being dismissed by Stuart Broad in the longest format of the game. As Warner made his way back to the dressing room, a wry smile played upon his lips, perhaps acknowledging Broad's dominance over him.

Unsurprisingly, social media erupted with memes mocking Warner's struggles against Broad. Even Chris Broad, Stuart's father and an ICC match referee, joined in the banter by sharing a meme featuring Warner. The meme featured a photoshopped image of Warner's face replacing that of the character 'Bart' from the American animated sitcom series 'The Simpsons.' The text on the chalkboard, written by 'Bart,' humorously stated, "Stuart Broad has got me out again."

However, Chris Broad's attempt at humour drew criticism from fans on Twitter. Many felt that as a veteran match official associated with the ICC, Broad should refrain from trolling players. Chris Broad, who had represented England in 25 Tests and 34 ODIs before transitioning into his role as an ICC match referee in 2003, faced backlash for his controversial tweet.

In the ongoing Headingley Test, Australia concluded Day 2 with a lead of 142 runs, reaching a score of 116/4. Prior to Australia's innings, England were bowled out for 237, with Ben Stokes leading a remarkable fightback for the home side by scoring a valiant 80. Stokes' efforts narrowed Australia's lead to a mere 26 runs, setting the stage for an intriguing contest in the remainder of the match.
