He stated that the Lankan players would have liked the spin-friendly conditions at the venue. Meanwhile, former England captain Kevin Pietersen indirectly expressed his displeasure with his former teammate Nasser Hussain after the latter called the Jos Buttler-led side's 2023 ODI World Cup crash an "end of an era". Pietersen stated that if someone feels it is the 'end of an era', they are embarrassed.
