CWC 2023: Fans spotted watching NED vs SL game from the roof of team bus

The Netherlands and Sri Lanka are locking horns in Match 19 of the ICC Cricket World Cup on Saturday, October 21 in Lucknow. Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and elected to bat first. The Dutch were all out for 262 in 49.4 overs. During the second innings, two fans were spotted watching the game from the roof of the team bus just behind the Netherlands team dugout.

Earlier in the match, after opting to bat first the Dutch were left reeling at 91/6 after 21.2 overs. Seamer Kasun Rajitha was the wrecker-in-chief as he dismissed Vikramjit Singh (4 off 13), Max ODowd (16 off 27) and Colin Ackerman (29 off 31) to leave the Dutch reeling at 54/3.

Dilshan Madushanka also got in the act quickly as he dismissed Bas de Leede (6 off 21), Teja Nidamanuru (9 off 16) to further put the opposition under pressure. Seeing their team in trouble, Engelbrecht (70 off 82) and Logan van Beek (59 off 75) got involved in a massive 130-run stand for the seventh wicket off 143 balls to help their team cross the 220-run mark.

Courtesy of their massive stand, the Netherlands managed to post a good score of 262 in 49.4 overs. Kasun Rajitha finished with figures of 4/50 in nine overs for Sri Lanka while Dilshan Madushanka picked up 4/49 in 9.4 overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost their opener Kusal Perera early in the innings but Pathum Nissanka (54 off 52), Sadeera Samarawickrama (91* off 107) and Charith Asalanka (44 off 66) played brilliant innings to guide their team home. Courtesy of their remarkable innings, Sri Lanka chased down the target of 263 in 48.2 overs.

As a result, the Kusal Mendis-led side registered their first win in the tournament after three consecutive losses against South Africa, Pakistan and Australia. They’re now ranked on the eight spot on the points table with one win from four matches having two points to their name while the Netherlands are on the seventh spot with one win from four matches.
