Recently, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) by six wickets in the 19th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024, despite a remarkable century by the batting maestro, Virat Kohli.

After the game, Kohli was captured sitting in the dugout with a visibly saddened expression, clearly reflecting the agony of the loss. A user shared the poignant picture on social media, and it quickly went viral with the caption: "The anguish of Virat Kohli is heart-wrenching. He deserves better...!!!!"

Coming to the match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru opted to bat first and set a total of 183 runs on the board, led by an outstanding century from Kohli. His impressive knock of 113* runs off 72 deliveries, comprising 12 boundaries and four sixes, was the standout performance for RCB. However, apart from a solid 44 off 33 balls by Faf du Plessis, the team lacked significant contributions with the bat. Yuzvendra Chahal shone with the ball for Rajasthan Royals, picking up two crucial wickets to keep RCB's total below the 200-run mark.

During the chase, Rajasthan lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early on. Nonetheless, a remarkable partnership between Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson turned the tide in RR's favor as they combined for a 148-run stand for the second wicket. Buttler's unbeaten century of 100 runs off 58 balls and Samson's 69 runs guided RR to another victory in the tournament.

Following the match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis analyzed the game, highlighting the challenging pitch conditions and the missed opportunity to score additional runs. He commended Kohli's batting display but acknowledged the threat posed by RR's spinners. Du Plessis pointed out a pivotal 20-run over that swung momentum and elaborated on bowling strategies tailored to counter the opposition's lineup. Stressing the need for aggressive bowling to take wickets, he outlined plans to elevate fielding standards in upcoming matches.

“I think we found the wicket tricky in the first innings. I thought 190 was a good score, think we could have added 10-15 runs max. Their spinners bowled well (in the middle overs), good decision by them to bowl first. With the dew batting got easier. Virat was playing well at the back end, with someone like Green coming in, you want to maximise those last overs. We tried to squeeze as hard as we can, but it was tricky to hit against the spinners.  Fielding was average, it's something we have spoken about, we'll work and try to improve. Not worried about catches, it's about showing intensity on the field,” Faf said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
