With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 rapidly approaching its end, the four sides that have made it to the playoffs were decided following the final group stage game. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore missed out on the playoff spot after their loss against Gujarat Titans.

The story for Bangalore remained the same; even after 16 seasons and multiple finals, the coveted IPL title still eludes the star-studded franchise. After making the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, Bangalore failed to make it to the knockout stages in 2023.

After the disheartening exit from the marquee tournament, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan took to Twitter, to sum up the story for Bangalore. His tweet summed up the feelings of every Bangalore fan. "15 Saal Guzre do hi Alfazo mein. Ek Aas mein dusra kash mein. RCB Fans ka trophy ka intezar barkarar," Irfan Pathan tweeted.

Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets

Talking about the game, Royal Challengers Bangalore came in to bat first against Gujarat Titans, looking to notch up a big total on the board. However, most of the batters could not amount to much, except Virat Kohli. The 34-year-old played an unbeaten knock of 101 runs in 61 deliveries. His knock was crucial to the side, notching up a big total on the board. Through his innings, the hosts managed to post 197 runs after the first innings.

However, coming in to chase the target, 23-year-old Shubman Gill came in all guns blazing. Amassing 104* runs in 52 balls, Gill’s knock propelled Gujarat to a wondrous win by six wickets against Bangalore. If the Faf du Plessis-led side had won their clash against Gujarat, they would have qualified for the playoffs, as they had a better net run rate than Mumbai Indians. However, Gill’s ton played spoilsport in Bangalore’s quest for their maiden IPL title.
