Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a narrow five-run win over the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2. Despite the batters failing to excel with the bat, DC bowlers were instrumental throughout GT's innings and successfully defended the below-par target set by them. Notably, this was just the third win of DC in the ongoing season.
DC skipper David Warner opted to bat first after winning the toss. Delhi batters were troubled by the GT bowlers as they could only score 130 runs in 20 overs, thanks to Aman Khan's valiant half-century. However, DC fought back brilliantly as they restricted the Hardik Pandya-led side by 125 runs in the allotted overs.
DC's regular skipper Rishabh Pant reacted after witnessing a spectacular performance by his team against the top team in the cash-rich league. The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter took to his official Instagram handle and shared a story congratulating the DC players. He shared an image of a television screen with Ishant Sharma's numbers on it and wrote, "Good job guys." He also mentioned Ishant Sharma in the story, who brilliantly defended the 12 runs in the penultimate over.
Pant was ruled out of the 16th edition of the IPL as he was under rehabilitation after he was involved in a near-fatal car accident in December 2022. The youngster had suffered injuries to his head, back and feet and has been sidelined since then. In his absence, Australia opener David Warner was named DC captain.
On April 4, Pant witnessed the IPL 2023 encounter between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Notably, the Hardik Pandya-led side won the match by a margin of six wickets.
