The first-ever Women’s Premier League auction witnessed five franchises going all in to obtain the services of the top international players. Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana became the highest earner from the marquee list of players as the Royal Challengers Bangalore roped her in for INR 3.4 crore. On the other hand, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was roped in by the most successful IPL franchise- Mumbai Indians.

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, who bought their team at the WPL, got the services of Harmanpreet Kaur for a sum of INR 1.8 crore. Interestingly, the Indian men’s team captain and the Indian women’s team captain are now a part of the Mumbai-based franchise in the Indian T20 league.

The entire Indian T20I side, which is currently in South Africa for the T20 World Cup 2023, has been following the auction together, and after Mandhana grabbed eyeballs for her reaction on being sold to RCB, Harmanpreet Kaur was next who was elated to join the Mumbai Indians. Her team members patted her back, and Kaur was all smiles on joining the ever-successful franchise.

Here’s the video:

Harmanpreet Kaur is leading the Indian side at the T20 World Cup 2023. While vice-captain Mandhana missed out on the campaign opener due to a finger injury, Kaur led the side to a brilliant seven-wicket victory against Pakistan on February 12 at the Newlands Stadium in Capetown.

Pakistan put up 149 in their allotted 20 overs quota, courtesy of skipper Bismah Maroof’s 55-ball 68*. India start to the chase was strong, but Shafali Verma’s dismissal led to the Women in Blue losing their momentum in the game. But Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 38-ball 53 and Richa Ghosh’s brilliant cameo of 31*(20) handed India a win.

Interestingly, Jemimah Rodrigues made her way to Delhi Capitals for the WPL 2023 alongside U19 champion skipper Shafali. Meanwhile RCB played brilliantly at the auction by getting the services of Richa Ghhosh alongside Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, and Renuka Thakur.
