The ongoing Ashes 2023 has been an exhilarating series so far as fans have got to witness several memorable moments in the first three Tests. Australia are leading the series by 2-1 and are just one step away from winning their first Ashes in England since 2001. Apart from the intense cricketing action on the field, the fans have also witnessed some heated moments as Australian players got into an ugly argument with MCC members during the second Test at Lord’s.

Recently, Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon made another startling revelation about the incident. He revealed that an old lady came up to him outside the Lord’s and apologized to him for the rash behaviour of the MCC members during lunch on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test.

“I was at the back of Lord’s talking to Jamie Cox, and I actually had an older lady come up to me in tears, an England lady in tears. She was from the main members there and she says we’ve got to go home. ‘I just want to apologise to you Australian cricketers for the way the guys have acted everyone’s acted within inside Lord’s’,” Lyon said on the WillowTalk Podcast.

Furthermore, he stated that he told the lady that they were all okay and not worried about getting sledged.

“And I just told her I look, don’t worry about it we’re all okay, we’re not worried about getting sledged. But it hit home for me that Ashes cricket can affect so many people in different ways and just the actions of people can hit so many different people as well. It was a nice moment but like an awkward moment,” Lyon added.

Alex Carey had stumped Bairstow in an unconventional manner during Lord's Ashes Test

Notably, the Australian players got into a heated debate with a few MCC members in the renowned 'Long room' of the Lord's after the controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow. The England batter ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green and strolled out of his crease. However, Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey darted back at the stumps and found Bairstow short of his crease.

The entire team went up for appeal and the third umpire adjudged Bairstow out considering that the ball was still in play. Following the incident, three MCC members were suspended for their unruly behaviour.
