Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Indian team and the announcement was made by Jay Shah via social media to the world. The former India cricketer was the frontrunner for the coveted position after he mentored Kolkata Knight Riders to their third title in IPL 2024. Gambhir took to his social media handle and revealed how much serving the country means to him and said that his goal is to make every Indian proud.
Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure ended as India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy on June 29 in Barbados. The former India opener’s first assignment as coach would be a white-ball tour to Sri Lanka as India are currently in Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. The team will be aiming to emerge victorious in the upcoming World Test Championship Final and Champions Trophy 2025.

“India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!” Gambhir wrote in his post on ‘X’.

Earlier, BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah put all the speculations aside as he revealed Gambhir’s new position in the Indian team. The new Head Coach will be leading the team for three years until 31st December 2027. WV Raman was another aspirant who was interviewed by the committee for the role and the veteran had to bow out making way for the most sought-after Gambhir for the coveted job title.
"It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward," Jay Shah said in his post on ‘X’.
"His clear vision for Team India, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey," he added.
