Joe Root continued his excellent form in ILT20 2023 with another impressive knock during the Dubai Capitals' group-stage game against MI Emirates on Sunday (January 22). The star batter smashed 82 runs at an impressive striker rate of 151.85 to help the Capitals score 222 runs against the Emirates. Root displayed the varieties of shots in his arsenal, including two marvelous scoop shots during his remarkable knock.
The former English captain is known for scoring big knocks consistently with over 17000 international runs across formats. His biggest contribution has been in Test cricket with over 10000 runs but Root continues to surprise the cricketing world with skills in white-ball cricket as well.
In the ongoing ILT20, he is the fourth highest run-getter with 214 runs from just five innings at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 134.59 with the help of two back-to-back 80-plus knocks. His recent knock against MI Emirates was another example of his ability to score big knocks in T20 cricket as well.
Watch Joe Root's two jaw-dropping scoopt shots:
Root treated fans with his famous signature scoop shot on two occasions during his knock on Sunday. He executed the first shot on Muhammad Waseem's delivery in the 15th over as he went across off stump to convert a lower full toss for a four over a short fine-leg. He pulled off another scoop shot in the next over on Zahoor Khan's outside-off delivery over fine leg boundaries to bag maximum.

Root missed out on his maiden T20 hundred again as he was caught out by Fazalhaq Farooqi on Zahoor's delivery in the 19th over. But his knock, alongside captain Rovman Powell's 97* off 41 helped the Capitals score a big 222 total against the Emirates.
However, they managed to win the game by just 16 runs as the opponent's captain Kieron Pollard smashed 86 off 38 to drag his team to 206/5 total. This was the Capitals' only second win from the opening five games in the tournament and they next face the struggling Sharjah Warriors on January 26.
