Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc was seen bowling despite enduring a blow to his finger during the ongoing third Test against India. The two cricketing powerhouses have locked horns in the third of the four-match Test series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Australia lost six wickets for just 11 runs in mere 34 balls to conclude their innings with 197 runs on the board and a lead of 88 runs. Team India got off to a fluent start as skipper Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill kickstarted the proceedings for the third innings of the contest.

However, in the midst of the contest, during the first over of the innings, Aussie speedster Mitchell Starc was seen bleeding. Despite the blow to his index finger, the ace pacer continued to bowl. Notably, Starc had some discomfort in his finger after snapping a tendon in a fielding mishap in December 2022.

Meanwhile, Ashwin and Umesh Yadav conjured a stunning turnaround as the duo got three wickets each to warp up Australia’s batting innings. The Aussies will be gunning to restrict the rival side to a meagre total as India take the field to set up a target.

Australia eyeing for WTC final spot

After taking a 2-0 lead in the four-match series, Rohit Sharma and Co. are one win shy of cementing their place in the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship. Meanwhile, Australia’s fine dominance in the red-ball format came to a screeching halt after being handed back-to-back defeats by the Indian side.

With the consecutive defeats, Australia’s wait for a place in the finals of the global ICC event continues. However, the Aussies started off well in the third Test but it remains to be seen if they are able to obtain a result in their favour. Furthermore, a win or a draw in either of the final two Tests will see Australia sail through to the summit clash of the WTC.
