After restricting Australia to a below-par total in the first innings, Team India got off to a wobbly start after Mitchell Starc dismissed Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav on successive deliveries. The latter was caught plumb in front of the wicket by the left-arm pacer, making it his first duck in ODI cricket.

Chasing a modest total on a seam bowling-friendly surface in Mumbai, India lost opener Ishan Kishan cheaply. Their woes were compounded when Australia's star pacer Mitchell Starc landed two crucial blows by dismissing former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav on his fifth and sixth delivery of the fifth over. This was Suryakumar Yadav's first duck in ODIs and fourth overall in international cricket.

Suryakumar, the no.1 T20I batter in the world, was pinned in front of the wicket for a first-ball duck, his first in ODI cricket. The T20 superstar would've been on the bench of the ODI series but a back injury to middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer gave him another opportunity to showcase his talents in the longer format of the game.

The flamboyant batter, who made his first appearance in the longest format of the game in the recently concluded Test series against Australia, has failed to live up to his reputation in the 50-over format after a series of low scores against the Kiwis earlier this year. While his batting in the shortest format of the game has been a revelation for the Men in Blue, his repeated failures in ODIs has disappointed the fans and experts alike.
