Kuldeep partners with Jurel to bail hosts out of deep trouble
Meanwhile, Kuldeep’s resilience at the crease, combined with Dhruv Jurel’s brilliance, helped India make a good start on the first session of Day 3. However, an unfortunate mistake cost Kuldeep his wicket as veteran James Anderson once again gave the breakthrough to the visitors. Anderson’s bouncer hit the inside edge and jumped off his boots to hit the stumps. Kuldeep seemed extremely disappointed with the dismissal, as England finally had their breakthrough.
Soon after his dismissal, Jurel completed his maiden Test half-century in Ranchi. Ahead of coming to the city, the Agra-born cricketer expressed his excitement to play in Ranchi, which happens to be the home ground of former India veteran MS Dhoni. He also expressed his desire to meet the legendary cricketer, but that hasn’t happened so far.
Notably, the keeper-batter has shown immense maturity, as India were reeling on 177/7 at one stage. The middle order collapsed to England's spin magic, as the variable bounce helped the tourists pick up a few quick wickets. Jurel, however, kept his calm and played to his merit, to bail India out of any sort of trouble.
Along with Kuldeep, he stitched a partnership of 76 runs, which gave India the much-needed momentum. After Kuldeep walked back to the pavilion, he took debutant Akash Deep to his wing and continued to put England under pressure.
Kuldeep's wicket also gave the 23-year-old some freedom. Since batting isn't Akash's strength, Jurel kept the strike for the majority part and played an attacking brand of cricket from to time. Jurel narrowly missed out on scoring his maiden ton, as he was dismissed for 90, but the knock garnered a lot of praise for the youngster, which reduced the lead for the Ben Stokes-led side.
