IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma's old prediction for Yashasvi Jaiswal goes viral after his splendid ton

Indian young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal shone with the bat on Day 1 of the second Test against England as he registered his second Test hundred in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 02. The southpaw remained unbeaten on 179* (257) as he smacked 17 fours and five sixes taking India to 336/6 at stumps.

Apart from him, no other Indian batter stood up against the England bowling attack with the next-best score being 34 by Shubman Gill. Following his magnificent ton, an old prediction from India captain Rohit Sharma went viral all over social media when he praised the youngster for his double hundred against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.

Notably, Jaiswal had uploaded highlights of his sensational 203 against Jharkhand in Elite Group A match during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019 in March 2020. Under the Instagram video, Rohit had praised the youngster as he commented ‘Next Superstar’.

At the age of 17 and 192 days, Yashasvi had become the first male teenager to score a double-century in List-A cricket. Following Jaiswal’s second Test hundred against England on Day 1, Rohit’s prediction has been going viral all over social media.

Meanwhile, speaking at the end of the day’s play, Jaiswal revealed that he was playing session by session and expressed his desire to score his first double hundred on Day 2.

"I wanted to play it session by session. When they were bowling well, I just wanted to get through that spell. Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls, and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team," he said in a conversation with the broadcasters at the end of the day's play on Friday.

India finished Day 1 with Ravichandran Ashwin (5* off 10) and Jaiswal at the crease being the last recognised batting pair. The duo will look to add at least 100 runs for the seventh wicket to post a challenging total for England in the first innings.
