India's World Cup hopes has been dealt a huge blow as star Indian pacer and one of the most sought-after fast bowlers in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, is reportedly ruled out of the upcoming ICC tournament. The bowling superstar recently made his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff but is set to miss the mega event in Australia, commencing next month, due to a serious stress fracture.
Jasprit Bumrah made his return to the Indian side in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia after missing the Asia Cup due to a back injury. He did not travel with the team for the series opener against South Africa as the BCCI revealed that the pacer was suffering from a back issue.
The news broke out on Thursday afternoon with several sources confirming the injury reports. Although the BCCI has yet to release an official statement on Bumrah's injury, anonymous BCCI officials have confirmed the earlier reports.
“We have been told that his injury is not good and at the moment and it looks like he won’t be traveling to Australia with the Indian team. The medical team will submit a detailed report soon,” a BCCI official confirmed to The Indian Express.
Mohammed Shami is the front runner to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian squad
Bumrah's injury is a killer blow to India's title aspirations, as the Men in Blue are struggling in the death bowling department, with veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffering an inexplicable dip in form. In the absence of the Indian spearhead, Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar, who has been named on the standby list for the T20 WC, could be included in the 15-man squad.
The Indian team will be hoping that the likes of Arshdeep Singh, who wreaked havoc in the first T20I against South Africa, can step up in the absence of their star man. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also need to reclaim his death bowling form if India wishes to clinch their second-ever T20I title, ending their ICC trophy drought of nine years.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the unfortunate news of Bumrah's injury:

First Jadeja, now Bumrah. Has India toured Australia in the past two years without key players and still done well?

India winning this T20 WC !! #JaspritBumrah
Would personally want India to take a batting depth heavy approach for the World T20 instead of trying to fill in the void of an all phase bowler like Bumrah. There isn't a single bowler at the moment who's in the reckoning who can fill this void.

Shami isn't the answer.
Mohd Siraj or Mohd Shami - either of the two to replace Jasprit Bumrah, who is all but out of the T20 World Cup.
