Australia are in the driver’s seat in the third Test of the four-match series at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore as they jolted India completely. After taking a healthy lead of 88 runs in the first innings, the Aussie spinners once again came to the party to decimate the Indian batting.

Day 2 began with Australia resuming their innings on 156/4 with Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green at the crease. The duo added 30 runs to the scoreboard in the first session off 101 balls before Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Peter Handscomb to get India’s first strike of the day.

From the other end, Umesh Yadav found great rhythm as he trapped Cameron Green in front of the stumps. He further destroyed the stumps of Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy to spark a collapse. Ashwin also sent Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon back into the pavilion as Australia got all out for 197 having 88 runs lead in the first innings.

Indian batters had an uphill task of eating up an 88-run deficit before they began setting a target for Australia. Aussie spinners once again showed great discipline and tightened the screws on the Indian batters.

Nathan Lyon picks up eight-for

After Matthew Kuhnemann picked up a fifer in the first innings, it was now the turn of Nathan Lyon to trap India in his spin web. He kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals as India failed to forge a single fifty-run partnership in the entire innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara was the only one who looked solid at the crease as he scored a brilliant 59. However, no other batter could surpass the 30-run mark as India got bundled out for 163 runs in the second innings. Nathan Lyon was the wrecker-in-chief who picked up 8/64 in 23.3 overs. It is his second eight-wicket haul against India. The Australian spinner got the prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja.

India have finished their innings with a 75 runs lead giving Australia a target of 76 to win the third Test.
