Courtesy of Shubman Gill’s sensational ton, Gujarat Titans cemented their berth in the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2023. However, one incident that garnered attention was that of Ashish Nehra refusing to celebrate Gill’s century during the first innings.

After the early dismissal of veteran batter Wriddhiman Saha, Gill took the onus to carve out a vital knock as he notched up his maiden century in the top-tier league. The flamboyant opener cracked 13 fours and one six in his 101 off 58 balls.

However, with little to no help from the rest of the batting unit, Titans’ head coach Nehra did not seem too enthusiastic on Gill’s century due to the regular fall of wickets. While almost everyone in the dugout stood up and lauded the centurion on his remarkable feat, Nehra did not show too many emotions and remained seated throughout. Moments later, Nehra had a few heated exchange of words with skipper Hardik Pandya following the dismal batting approach.

Notably, the swashbuckling right-hander is in contention for the IPL Orange Cap as he has collected 576 runs in 13 appearances. In addition to this, he has laced his campaign with four half-centuries and one ton at a solid average of 48.00.

Gujarat seal berth in playoffs

The defending champions are the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs of the event, following the win by 34 runs against SRH. Hardik Pandya and Co. comfortably sit atop the IPL Points Table with 18 points in 13 matches, courtesy of nine wins and a decent Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.835.

In addition to this, the defending champions have also made their place in the Qualifier 1 berth. However, Gujarat Titans will aim to win their final group fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday May 21, to keep their momentum intact.

On the other hand, Aiden Markram and Co. are officially out of the race for playoffs following the loss against the Titans. Sunrisers lock horns with RCB on Thursday, May 18 next and will be looking to conclude the season on a winning note by triumphing in their last two matches.
