IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings players spatter cake on Tushar Deshpande’s face amid birthday celebration

Chennai Super Kings pacer, Tushar Deshpande would have liked to get a win on his birthday to make his day even more special. Though he did not have a perfect day on the field, his teammates kind of made it up to him by celebrating his birthday.

A video that was put out by the franchise on their official Twitter handle showed the right-arm bowler’s face being smashed with the cake. CSK posted the video of his birthday celebration and captioned it “Birthdays are not done right without the cake smashes!”. The likes of MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming could also be seen present at the celebration.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed an impressive run in the tournament as he has picked up 19 wickets in the tournament so far. Tushar has certainly looked in the rhythm in this year’s IPL as there have been only a few occasions where he was not successful in picking up wickets. He has certainly looked to have made amends to his performance to look different from what he was in the previous year’s IPL. 

CSK defeated by KKR to be left tantalising for playoff qualification

The wait for CSK to seal their playoff spot got prolonged as they suffered a defeat in their previous game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 61^st match of the IPL 2023. The two-time IPL champions defeated CSK in their den by six wickets. After winning the toss, the MS Dhoni-led side decided to bat first but they managed to score a subpar total of 144/6 in their 20 overs on the back of some valuable contributions coming in from Shivam Dube (48) and Devon Conway (30). 

In reply, KKR did not have the best of starts as the visitors lost three wickets inside the batting powerplay. At one stage with KKR at 33/3, CSK were looking in a strong position and were all set to register their eighth win of the season. But Nitish Rana (57*) and Rinku Singh (54) had other plans as both of them stitched a well-paced 99-run stand to seal the deal for KKR. With this win, KKR ensured that they are alive in the competition.
