Rohit Sharma's woeful campaign in IPL 2023 is going from bad to worse as the Mumbai Indians skipper was dismissed for a three-ball duck in a high-profile contest against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk. The Mumbai skipper's inability to open his account against CSK means that he has now registered 16 ducks in the tournament's history, the most by any batter.
Mumbai Indians' swashbuckling opener, Rohit Sharma, is struggling for runs in the 16th edition of the tournament. If his prolonged lean run wasn't headache enough for the Indian skipper, he now finds himself at the top of a rather embarrassing list. He failed to open his account against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings after he mistimed his lap shot off Deepak Chahar's delivery. He has now 16 ducks to his name, the most by any player in IPL history.
He was previously tied with KKR's Sunil Narine, Mandeep Singh and RCB's Dinesh Karthik on 15 ducks.
Rohit Sharma overtakes Gautam Gambhir to become the captain with the most ducks in IPL history
But it wasn't the only unceremonious record that the Mumbai skipper broke during his brief stay at the crease. Rohit, who is the most successful captain in the history of the competition, now also holds the record for most ducks as the leader of the side, 11, eclipsing Gautam Gambhir's previous record of ten ducks. His lean patch with the bat has started to worry the team management and the fans as the five-time champions move into the business end of the tournament, hoping to reclaim their crown.
