Mumbai Indians’ (MI) flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed in the same manner he usually gets the big runs, during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Notably, Krunal Pandya-led LSG edged past the most decorated side by five runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, in Lucknow, on Tuesday, May 16.

In the midst of the chase, swashbuckling right-hander Suryakumar attempted to play his scoop shot over short fine leg. However, with not much pace on the ball, the batter got a thick inside edge onto the stumps which sent him packing for just seven runs off nine balls by Yash Thakur.

Suryakumar, who is known to get runs all over the park, courtesy of his exceptional hitting ability, eventually got a taste of his own medicine. Notably, Yash concluded his four overs, leaking 40 runs at a dismal economy rate of 10.00, despite getting two wickets under his belt.

LSG win a thrilling affair against MI in the ongoing IPL 2023

During the chase of 178 runs, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma handed a solid head start as the opening pair got 90 runs for the first wicket. However, Lucknow struck with blows at regular intervals which helped them get back into the contest as MI were reduced to 145/5.

As the match came down to the wire, it was Mohsin Khan who proved his mettle in the final over. The left-arm pacer managed to restrict the rival side for just five runs despite Tim David and star all-rounder Cameron Green still on the crease.

In doing so, LSG won the contest by five runs and are on the cusp of making a place in the playoffs of the IPL 2023. Following the win, Krunal Pandya and Co. climbed to the third spot in the IPL Points Table with 15 points in 13 matches with a solid Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.304. LSG play their final group fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens, on Saturday, May 20.
