An absolute carnage in Visakhapatnam as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batters displayed a ruthless batting display against Delhi Capitals (DC) to post the second-highest total in the tournament history. Sunil Narine started the show and the rest of the batters continued the momentum without showing any mercy to the DC bowlers.

After an excellent platform set by the top-order, KKR promoted Andre Russell to bat ahead of his usual position, and the all-rounder did not at all disappoint. On a batting deck at Vizag, Russell went all guns blazing at DC bowlers, and carried the onslaught started by Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

Russell pulled off his muscle power and smacked three monstrous sixes and four boundaries to make 41 off just 19. KKR were just 14 away with six balls remaining to break the highest team total in IPL history -277, set by Sunrisers Hyderabad a few days ago.

With the attacking batter at the crease, and in his red-hot form, it was possible to achieve, but Ishant Sharma's toe-crushing yorker shunned all the expectations. The veteran Indian pacer sent Russell packing on his very first ball. By the time the big man could bring his bat down, the stumps were dismantled, and the batter fell onto the floor quite awkwardly. Impressed by the lethal bowling, Russell himself applauded the senior pacer, leading to a sportsmanship gesture between the two.

The opening pair of Phil Salt and Narine have proved fruitful so far this season, and they provided yet again a powerful start. The southpaw scored a 21-ball fifty in the final ball of the Powerplay and helped his team register 88/1 — surpassing their effort against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) not so long ago.

Narine continued his relentless assault, and he got a good companion in debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The 18-year-old took no time in attacking the DC bowlers and impressed everyone with his batting prowess with a 27-ball 54. Mitchell Marsh broke the dangerous partnership in the 13th over with the wicket of Narine. However, the damage was done already, and the stage was set for a strong finish.

At the end, Kolkata posted 272 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Notably, this was the second-highest total in the league's history, only behind Sunrisers Hyderabad's 277/3, attained earlier this season.
