IPL 2024: Andrew Flintoff attends KKR’s warm-up game in rare appearance

Ahead of the new season of the IPL (Indian Premier League), former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was seen making a rare appearance as he attended Kolkata Knight Riders’ practice session at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The former cricketer has been slowly making his return to the public after being involved in a life-threatening car crash in December 2022. 

Flintoff was spotted at the side’s warm-up game as they are gearing up to prepare for the 17th edition of the IPL. KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir and coach Chandrakant Pandit were overseeing the practice game, with Flintoff also in attendance. 

The picture of the same was shared by KKR on their official Instagram handle. "A special guest at our practice match, Flintoff, is here,” the KKR captioned the post. It is worth noting that Flintoff was involved in a car accident while filming for the BBC show Top Gear in December 2022.

The accident resulted in broken ribs and several facial injuries. The former cricketer was airlifted to a hospital from Dunsfold Park Aerodrome. However, he seems to be making a good return from his injuries as he slowly returns to the public eye. 

KKR take on SRH to begin IPL 2024 campaign

Speaking of KKR’s upcoming assignments, the two-time champions will begin their IPL 2024 campaign by taking on the Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 23. 

Both KKR and SRH had a season to forget in 2023, as both sides failed to make it to the knockout stages of the competition. Kolkata Knight Riders finished in seventh place in the standings with 12 points in 14 matches. 

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished in last place in the standings with eight points in 14 matches. However, as the IPL 2024 approaches, both sides will be keen on improving and will hope to potentially go all the way and win the title as well.
