The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season has been a roller-coaster ride for Rohit Sharma. After a blistering century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Mumbai Indians (MI) opener has struggled to find his form, scoring just 69 runs in his last six innings. His frustrations seemed to boil over during MI's last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 6.

Rohit's lean patch has coincided with Mumbai's inconsistent run in the tournament. The five-time champions have failed to build momentum, and have been in the bottom half of the points table since the start of the season. As one of the senior players and a former captain, Rohit's struggles have only added to the team's woes. Visuals of a distraught Rohit, head in his hands and tears rolling down his cheeks, quickly spread across social media platforms.

In the match against SRH, Rohit lasted just five balls before edging a Pat Cummins delivery to the keeper. As he made the long walk back to the pavilion, the disappointment was evident on his face. However, few would have expected the emotional outburst that followed.

In the game, the Mumbai-based franchise won the toss and opted to field first. The 2016 champions, SRH, who has a formidable batting lineup and has been in excellent form, struggled to accelerate and were restricted to 173/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Travis Head top-scored for the visitors with 48 runs. The Mumbai team's captain, Hardik Pandya, and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla shared six wickets between them. During the chase, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant innings, scoring 102 runs off just 51 balls, guiding his team to their fourth win of the season.

Although the Mumbai side has no chance of qualifying for the playoffs this season, they will be looking to end their campaign on a high note with two games remaining, first against the Kolkata Knight Riders and then their last match at home against the Lucknow Super Giants.
