However, their joy was short-lived as RCB's captain got out in the deep, followed by Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell, both out for ducks. Virat Kohli and Cameron Green tried to salvage the situation, but they both fell in quick succession, leaving RCB struggling at 78 for 5. The situation looked bleak with Mustafizur Rahman on fire and taking four wickets.

Local boy Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat, who RCB gambled in the form of extra batter in this game, took the singles and doubles and then went on to mercilessly attack CSK's pacers towards the end. Their partnership of 95 runs off 50 balls gave their team a decent total of 173 runs to defend. However, RCB knew that they would have to bowl exceptionally well because the wicket improved for batting.

CSK pulled off something only they can

In response, CSK's openers started aggressively, and Rachin Ravindra had a memorable debut as he scored a quick 37 runs off just 15 deliveries. RCB tried to pull things back in the middle overs and kept the match interesting. They used a barrage of short balls, which got them a couple of wickets, but they failed to adapt once the tactic stopped working for them. Although Shivam Dube was initially uncomfortable, he hung in there and along with Ravindra Jadeja, got the job done as CSK emerged victorious by 6 wickets.

The defending champions, under a new captain but still following the same ethos, won their opening match and extended their superb home record against RCB, now leading 8-1. It wasn't the nail-biting thriller that some were hoping for, but this grand tournament is off to a flying start. In their next fixture, CSK will play against Gujarat Titans, and RCB will be looking to get off the mark against Punjab Kings on March 25 in their home.
