Gujarat Titans overcame Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 12th match of the IPL 2024. A collective team effort from the home side helped them to clinch the 2nd win of their campaign. SRH lost their second match in the tournament. Gujarat were better with both bat and ball compared to Hyderabad. The wicket had something in it for the bowlers and the batters had to apply themselves in the middle.

Pat Cummins, the skipper of GT, won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that was arguable. After scoring 277 runs in the previous game against MI, the visiting side was high on confidence. However, their batters were not as good as they were in the last match. A part of it had to do with the nature of the wicket. Mayank Agarwal perished after scoring 16 runs in 17 balls. Travis Head scored 19 runs in 14 balls.

Abhishek Sharma batted well in the middle till he got dismissed. The Southpaw registered a score of 29(20) which included two fours and sixes each. Aiden Markram could not get going and perished for 17(19). Heinrich Klaasen tried to up the ante, but managed to score 24(13). It was the cameo of Abdul Samad which took SRH to a score of over 160. The youngster scored 29 runs in 14 balls which included three sixes and a four.

With the ball, no bowler bowled badly. Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad claimed a wicket each. Mohit Sharma was the pick of the bowlers who claimed 3/25 in his four overs. The right-arm pacer mixed his pace well and operated in good lengths. His slower ones were effective and the yorkers were brilliant. SRH managed to score 162 runs in their 20 overs.

Chasing the target, GT got a decent start. Wriddhiman Saha went hard at the top. The wicketkeeper batter scored 25(13) which included a boundary and two sixes. In the middle overs, Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill anchored the chase. Both the batters played out a few overs and started to hit the bowlers. Given the small target, it did not affect the home side, as there were many batters yet to come.

Gill perished soon after the first strategic time-out. The GT skipper scored 36 runs in 28 balls which included two fours and a six. Sai Sudarshan was dismissed after a well-made 45(36). He remains the GT batter with the highest individual score in all their matches in the tournament so far. After his dismissal, Vijay Shankar joined David Miller and took GT home with their timely finishing.

Miller was the pick of the batters, as he scored an unbeaten 44*(27). His knock included 4 fours and 2 sixes. At the start of his innings, the Southpaw batted slowly. After getting set, he went after the bowlers. Vijay Shankar was supportive to the South African, as he scored an unbeaten 14*(11) from his end. The two batters helped GT to chase down the total by 7 wickets with 5 balls to spare.

Among SRH bowlers, skipper Pat Cummins was the best of the lot. The star bowler bowled 4 overs, conceded 28 runs, and got the wicket of Sai Sudarshan. Shahbaz Ahmed and Mayank Markande claimed a wicket each. However, it was not enough, as GT batted with caution and attacked the bowlers when they had to. In the end, GT's approach proved to be right, as they mixed caution with aggression well on a 2-paced wicket.
