Chennai Super Kings took on Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 18 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. SRH won the toss and challenged the pitch reports that anticipated batting first and opted to bowl. CSK openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra were way more cautious in their approach at the start. They conjured 25 runs in three overs and Ravindra departed after scoring 12 off 9. 

Gaikwad tried to up the ante with timely boundaries but fell prey to Shahbaz Ahmed after scoring 26 off 21. Ajinkya Rahane and Shivan Dube paired up and tried to take CSK out of the Hyderabad puddle. SRH on the other hand had intent written all over their faces. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma took Chennai bowlers to the cleaners. They both together amassed 46 runs in just 2.4 overs. While Head departed after scoring 31 off 24, it was Sharma’s 37 off 12 that gave SRH the foundation for a victory. Aiden Markram joined the action, which started with a flurry of boundaries. His 50 off 36 balls pretty much sealed the deal for SRH.

Though Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy saw through SRH by six wickets victory, it was Abhishek who stole the show. Promoted up the order, the southpaw lit up the Uppal with his blitzkrieg. He fetched 27 runs of Mukesh Kumar's over and the defending champions’ hopes of a comeback were dented. He finished at a strike rate of 308.33 and smashed three boundaries and four sixes.
