Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw posted a cryptic story on his Instagram only days after his involvement in an incident in a Mumbai suburb, where he was allegedly attacked by a group of people after refusing to take a selfie with them for the second time.
“Some people will only ‘love you’ as much as they can use you (sic). Their loyalty ends where the benefits stop,” Shaw posted on his Instagram.
The instance of the attack on Shaw’s car was reported on February 16, following which a case was registered with the police. "Oshiwara Police has registered a case against 8 persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people," Mumbai Police was quoted by The Print.
The young batter, in a few videos that did rounds on social media, was seen in casualwear in night on a Mumbai street, where people recording him were heard accusing Shaw and his friends for physically assaulting them. The woman involved in the incident was later found out be Sapna Gill, a social media influencer, who was arrested before being released on bail by a magistrate court. Gill had later filed an FIR against Shaw for outraging her modesty.
Prithvi Shaw eyeing international return
On the cricketing front, Shaw, who has played 12 internationals for India, returned to the squad for New Zealand T20Is at home. Even though he did not get a game, Shaw stated that he felt “nice” after being named in the squad.
“I felt nice coming back into the T20I squad, to meet the players and train with them. I enjoyed that bit. Yes, I did not get an opportunity but was given the chance to make a comeback, which mattered. It all depended on them when to play and when not to, but I respected that because probably they wanted to give the person before me a bit longer run,” said Shaw.
“I kept on scoring runs. I felt if that was not enough then I have to score more and more…then I scored 379. It was just my day and felt I will not let go of this opportunity. Sometimes it just tends to hit you that why I am not in the Indian team for so long despite all the efforts…but it’s never too late," he added.
The last Shaw played for India was in July 2021, his maiden T20I against Sri Lanka. However, he has been in prolific form in domestic cricket in the meantime, having scored 595 runs at an average of 59.50 for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 2022-23, including a record-tumbling triple ton (379).
