The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has revealed that the men's national cricket team head coach Manoj Prabhakar has stepped down from his position on Thursday (December 15). The former Indian cricketer joined Nepal back in August this year and enjoyed good success with positive results.

The 59-year-old coach succeded Pubudu Dissanayake and worked with Nepal team in 12 matches, including seven ODIs. Nepal witnessed an immediate success with Prabhakar by winning the five-match T20I series by 3-2 against Kenya and winning all three ODIs. His defining success came against UAE in November when Nepal managed to win the home ODI series by 2-1.

But in the World Cup Super League, Nepal suffered two defeats against Scotland and Namibia, and one more game against Namibia ended in a no result. Nepal are currently struggling in the World Cup Super League two table in the second last position with just eight wins from 24 matches so far.

“Manoj Prabhakar has stepped down from his position of Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team’s Head Coach with immediate effect on 15th December 2022. CAN has accepted his resignation and wish him the best for his future,” the Cricket Association of Nepal said in a statement on Twitter.

Prabhakar worked as head coach with three Ranji Trophy teams, including the Rajasthan cricket team. He served as a bowling coach for the Delhi team and Afghanistan national team during the 2016 T20 World Cup tournament.

He featured for India in 169 international matches from 1984-1996. He took 96 wickets in Tests and 157 wickets in ODIs. He played for Delhi in domestic cricket and took 385 wickets in FC cricket. Prabhakar holds a unique world record for playing most matches as an opening batter cum opening bowler in both Tests and ODIs.
