Chennai Super Kings asserted their dominance against hosts Mumbai Indians after star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja clung onto a stunner to dismiss the dangerous Cameron Green. It was Jadeja's second wicket of the match as the home side's middle-order surrendered meekly against the CSK spinners. Fans were quick to point out an old tweet from MS Dhoni after Jadeja's brilliant return catch.
Following a brisk start by the Mumbai openers, Mumbai Indians lost their way after the powerplay and their hopes of a comeback into the contest were severely dented after Ravindra Jadeja ended the hard-hitting Cameron Green's stay at the crease with a superb return catch. Green had absolutely smashed Jadeja's second delivery of the ninth over, but the CSK all-rounder somehow managed to cling onto the chance.
Umpire Chris Gaffaney was ducking for cover, but the ball stuck into an evading Jadeja's right hand to bring a halt to Green's stay at the crease. The left-arm spinner was in a menacing mood and struck a hammer blow after dismissing last match's hero Tilak Varma to return with exceptional bowling figures of 3/20 in his four overs.
Fans on social media were quick to point out Dhoni's take on the mercurial all-rounder in one of his old tweets. Dhoni had remarked in his tweet that the ball follows Jadeja instead of the Indian all-rounder going after the ball. The former Indian skipper had posted the tweet in 2013.
"Sir jadeja doesn't run to take the catch but the ball finds him and lands on his hand," read Dhoni's tweet.
Mumbai Indians had started the game brightly on the back of a brisk opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Ishan. However, the introduction of spin by the visitors completely derailed Mumbai's batting innings as they lost four quick wickets after the powerplay. While Jadeja accounted for three opposition batters, he received valiant support from Mitchell Santner from the other end, who chipped in with two wickets, including the crucial scalp of Suryakumar Yadav.
