Michael Vaughan alleges foul play in Hawk-Eye after Root's controversial dismissal, deletes post later

The ball-tracking controversy continued to rock the ongoing India vs England Test series as England batter Joe Root fell victim to a controversial lbw dismissal on Day 3 of the fourth Test in Ranchi. Root got struck on his pad in the 17^th over of England’s second innings but was given not out by the on-field umpire.

After much deliberation, India decided to go for the review and the ball-tracking showed the ball was pitching in line and hitting the stumps ending Root’s innings on 11 (34). However, images of ball-tracking on Root’s dismissal went viral as it showed more than half of the ball pitching outside leg which would’ve saved the England batter.

The decision didn’t go down well with the former England captain Michael Vaughan who called it a ‘shocker for the technology’. He further asserted that over half of the ball was pitching outside leg stump and stated that Hawkeye technology is having an average series. However, he later deleted that post.

“The Root dismissal was a shocker for the technology. Over half looked to have pitched outside leg stump but it came up red !!!!!! Hawkeye is having a average series .. And it's done for England's best player Root ..," had posted on X.

In another post, Vaughan alleged that the broadcaster didn’t show enough replays of Root’s dismissal considering that it was the main moment of England’s innings. The former English skipper once again took to his X account to post the pitching rules of Hawkeye. England cricketer Sam Billings also called out the DRS technology for making several mistakes in the series so far.

Zak Crawley was controversially dismissed in second and third Test

Notably, it’s not the first time that Hawk eye has come under question in the ongoing series as England opener Zak Crawley was controversially adjudged out in the second innings of both the second and third Test. The opening batter was struck on his pad by Kuldeep Yadav on Day 4 of the second Test and was adjudged out when DRS surprisingly reversed the on-field decision of not out.

Later in the third Test, he was trapped in front of the stumps by Jasprit Bumrah and the on-field umpire adjudged him out. However, after reviewing the decision, it was shown that the ball may have missed the stumps but ‘hitting’ came on the umpire’s call causing confusion in the England camp.
