San Francisco Unicorns batter Finn Allen was left shell-shocked after he was involved in a rather bizarre dismissal during the fourth match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 against Seattle Orcas at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas on Saturday, July 15.

The incident occurred during the second ball of the fourth over of the chase when Cameron Gannon was up against Finn Allen. Prior to the dismissal, Allen took the rival bowling unit to the cleaners, as he smashed two maximums and four boundaries to score 28 runs off mere nine balls.

However, Gannon bowled a slower delivery on back of a length on the leg stump upon which, Allen delicately tipped it towards the leg side and got off to take a single, rather slowly. Casually running on the verge of completing a single, Shehan Jayasuriya, present at the leg-side, sensed an opportunity to dismiss the batter and fired the ball towards the non-striker’s end that sent Allen packing.

The bizarre run-out left Allen dumbfounded as he was visibly dejected while walking back to the pavilion with a score of 28 runs off 10 balls at a strike rate of 280.00. For the record, Seattle scored a competitive 177 runs in the first innings courtesy of Heinrich Klaasen’s fifty (53 off 31 balls).

San Francisco Unicorns got outfoxed during run-chase

Following the dismissal of opener Allen, Seattle Orcas’ bowling unit ripped through San Francisco’s batting line-up quite comfortably to take control of the contest. Though down the order Shadab Khan played a breezy knock of 37 off 23 balls, it was Gannon’s four-wicket haul which ended Unicorns’ hopes of winning their second consecutive match.

Gannon got four scalps for just 23 runs in his 3.5 overs at an economy of 6.00. Meanwhile, Andrew Tye and Imad Wasim shared four wickets between them in Seattle’s solid win by 35 runs. Seattle Orcas sit atop the points table with four points following two wins on the trot.
