Legendary India captain MS Dhoni is the most successful limited-overs skipper of the country having led his side to three ICC titles under his tenure. Dhoni’s meteoric rise at the international level came after years of perseverance and a single-minded zeal to pursue his dreams. Notably, Dhoni even worked as a ticket collector at the Kharagpur Railway Station while playing for Railways.

Recently, Dhoni’s first appointment letter as a ticket collector went viral on social media as his fans began to recall his struggle in the early days. The wicketkeeper batter was faced with a dilemma whether to continue his job in Railways or to pursue his cricketing dream.

Dhoni listened to his heart and gave full focus to his cricketing career which eventually changed the cricketing landscape of India. The Ranchi-born cricketer went on to make his international debut against Bangladesh in December 2004 but unfortunately got out for a golden duck.

After the initial setback, Dhoni went on to score his first international hundred in his fifth game against Pakistan with a brilliant knock of 148 in Visakhapatnam and never looked back. He became a regular mainstay in all three formats of the game and led a young side to a historic triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.

Dhoni will return in IPL 2024

Under Dhoni’s leadership, India ended their 28-year-long drought of ODI World Cup win as they became the first nation to win a World Cup on home soil in 2011. Furthermore, he led another young side to the Champions Trophy 2013 win in England.
