It seems that Sanju Samson is in the perfect frame of mind ahead of the first T20I between India and New Zealand at Wellington on Friday, November 18 as he made a solid statement during India’s recent net session.
In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on their official Twitter handle, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, and, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya were sweating it out in the nets with an intense batting practice.
All the batters showcased their six-hitting abilities. Meanwhile, it was Sanju and Shreyas Iyer’s no-look shots that stood out the most as the duo took the length deliveries to the cleaners while batting on practice wickets.
Samson struck two no-look sixes- one happened to be over square leg while the other one was perfectly timed towards the long leg region.
Sanju Samson’s entertaining batting in the nets impressed all the players and the support staff. In fact, one of them could also be heard shouting, “Shot hain yaar Sanju”, when he hit one no-look six.

Sanju Samson eager to prove a point in the New Zealand T20Is
In the few chances that he got during the bilateral T20Is earlier this year, Samson did manage to showcase impressive performances on a few occasions. Nonetheless, he could not make it to the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as veteran Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant were selected as the first-choice stumpers.
With Karthik excluded from this tour, Samson and Pant are the first-choice wicketkeepers. Now, the onus will be on the Kerala cricketer to prove his mettle by making his bat do the talking on the 22 yards in the three-match series.
Moreover, with senior players like regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, etc. rested for this series, this is indeed a perfect opportunity for Sanju Samson to be on the selectors’ radar provided he goes on to play impactful knocks against a good New Zealand bowling attack.
