In the 37th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Team India emerged victorious with a comfortable 243-run win over South Africa. The highlight of the match was Virat Kohli's record-equalling 49th ODI century, which played a crucial role in India's success. It is worth noting that this milestone was even more special as it coincided with Kohli's 35th birthday.

After the match, a special cake was cut to celebrate Virat Kohli's 35th birthday at Eden Gardens, in Kolkata. Coming to the match, on his 35th birthday, Virat delivered a remarkable performance, remaining unbeaten with a century, scoring 101 runs off 121 balls. This feat put him on par with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli also formed a formidable 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 77 runs, propelling India to an imposing total of 326 for five.

Following India's batting display, the bowlers took the stage and exhibited their prowess. Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer, securing a five-wicket haul with figures of 5/33. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets each, with figures of 2/18 and 2/7, respectively, while Mohammed Siraj chipped in with one wicket for just 11 runs. These superb spells by the Indian bowlers led to the Proteas being dismissed for a mere 83 runs in 27.1 overs.

Meanwhile, speaking of the ODI World Cup 2023 clash between India and South Africa, the hosts began with a strong start, as skipper Rohit Sharma (40 runs off 24 balls) and Shubman Gill (23 runs) formed a solid foundation with a 62-run partnership. Rohit Sharma's blistering strokes helped India reach the 50-run mark in just 4.3 overs, featuring two sixes and six boundaries in his entertaining innings.

Subsequently, after the departure of Rohit and Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer took centre stage and continued to pummel the South African bowlers all around the ground. Ravindra Jadeja also played a crucial role with a quick, unbeaten 29-run innings off just 15 balls, guiding India to a formidable total. India and South Africa have already secured their places in the semifinals, making this victory a significant statement of their strength and form in the tournament.
